AttaGirl Giving Circle Member Launch and Orientation
COVID-19 has been devastating to communities across our great nation. Women, in particular, have been impacted especially hard. According to a Center for American Progress report, the collapse of the child care sector and drastic reductions in school supervision hours as a result of COVID-19 estimates that the risk of mothers leaving the labor force and reducing work hours in order to assume caretaking responsibilities amounts to $64.5 billion per year in lost wages and economic activity. The report projects that lack of action may threaten family economic security and set gender equity back a generation. Giving circles, like our AttaGirl Giving Circle, are the kinds of grassroots mobilization needed to provide women and their families specialized lifelines to meet their very unique needs, right now.
The AttaGirl Giving Circle consists of up to 25 women across the country, of all ages and economic backgrounds, who will collectively pool our resources to support organizations who focus on career development, health and safety; small business development, and individual prosperity. This intimate group of 25 women will meet virtually, every-other-month for an hour to create a community with one another, to learn about and from each another, to perform courageous deep-dives into the issues and causes that are most important to us and to democratize philanthropy to provide an avenue for people without substantial means to participate in significant giving. By being a member, you become part of this collective community that can shape the donations and grants and decide, through consensus, on who will be awarded the funding.
We’d love for you to grab our hands and come with us on this innovative giving circle journey as we collectively raise and donate money to charities who are dedicated to empowering women. Former UN Ambassador Madeline Albright once said, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”
Here’s your chance.
